MLS 2022 Week 19 | MLS Betting Tips

Kris Brown – AKA MLS Card Guy – is our resident serious Major League Soccer expert.

Kris’s passion for the MLS really took off during the 2018 season in which he was a part of the team at DC United that opened Audi Field and welcomed Wayne Rooney to the MLS. He is now in his second season with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL. Kris likes to follow D.C United, Cincinnati, Seattle, and Atlanta.

His favorite player in the MLS is Luciano Acosta, but past favorites include Clint Dempsey and Kevin Paredes. The most iconic game he attended came at Audi field against Orlando in 2018, Wayne Rooney famously chased down an Orlando player who was racing towards an open DC goal, expertly tackled the ball away to save the draw, then unleashed a laser from midfield that Acosta headed in to complete the hat trick and seal the win.

Another rivalry week down for us in the MLS and it’s time for us to turn our attention to this next set of games. Keep in mind that teams will be prioritizing rivalries but we have still had a fair few games in the last few weeks. A team like Houston that has played back to back rivalry games may choose to rest some guys this weekend, whereas other teams, like Columbus, rotated in the mid week to prepare for more rivalries this weekend. Also, we will start to see teams fold their new signings in as we move through July. Now, off we go into the games.

MLS Betting Tips – Week 19

MLS Betting – Game Week 19 Preview

Chicago vs Seattle

A week ago this would have been a white hot team facing off with a team who had lost its form. That is still the case now except the roles have been flipped. It’s Seattle who comes in as the team who has lost 3 of its last 4 including getting pounded by Portland last weekend. Chicago meanwhile had Columbus on the ropes before crumbling and they smacked Toronto in the mid week. I’m still taking talent over form in this one though I do expect it to be a lower scoring affair. Seattle has some massive Western Conference clashes coming up with Dallas and LAFC, they need to get points before they hit those potential stumbling blocks. Chicago has kept a clean sheet in 11 of the last 17 at home, but Seattle has the talent to break through once or twice.

Minnesota United vs DC United

This game should have late movement on the line because of news that broke earlier this morning. DC’s second best player Julian Gressel was dealt to Vancouver. Wayne Rooney may eventually get this thing figured out but things are still a bit of a mess in DC. Meanwhile Minnesota is white hot. They surrendered a late equalizer to SKC but had won 3 in a row before that. Until DC proves its affairs are back in order, keep laying them and keep taking the money. The home team has also won all 4 games in this series. DC has never scored in the twin cities.

Colorado Rapids vs LA Galaxy

This one is another one that has had breaking news that should affect the lines but hasn’t really. Chicharito is in health and safety protocols after missing the midweek match against San Jose. Couple that with Colorado’s much better defensive record at home this season and I expect there to be value in Colorado to win a shutout. Colorado is also unbeaten in 7 straight against the Galaxy, the longest run by either side in this long series. If Jack Price can make the bench at least that would be a huge boost in the rapids favor as well. Finally, the Galaxy have played back to back derby games so we may see rotation in this one.

Columbus vs Cincinnati (Hell Is Real Derby)

It’s pretty rare that I pick against Cincy but again this one comes down to unavailable players. Luciano Acosta is having an MVP caliber season for the orange and blue, but he will miss this game as well as the next one for an incident with a referee a few games ago. Columbus has also owned their new ohio neighbours, in 8 meetings of the Hell is Real Derby Columbus has only been beaten once. This will still be a pretty fascinating one to watch even without Lucho. It matches Colubmus’s 7 game unbeaten streak vs Cincy’s 6 game unbeaten streak. It also matches two of the top young strikers in the league as brand new Columbus forward Chucho Hernandez has 3 goals in his first 2 games. Meanwhile Brenner has finally broken out with 8 goal contributions in his last 7 games after only having 6 goal contributions in his previous 28 league games.
