Kris Brown – AKA MLS Card Guy – is our resident serious Major League Soccer expert.
Kris’s passion for the MLS really took off during the 2018 season in which he was a part of the team at DC United that opened Audi Field and welcomed Wayne Rooney to the MLS. He is now in his second season with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL. Kris likes to follow D.C United, Cincinnati, Seattle, and Atlanta.
His favorite player in the MLS is Luciano Acosta, but past favorites include Clint Dempsey and Kevin Paredes. The most iconic game he attended came at Audi field against Orlando in 2018, Wayne Rooney famously chased down an Orlando player who was racing towards an open DC goal, expertly tackled the ball away to save the draw, then unleashed a laser from midfield that Acosta headed in to complete the hat trick and seal the win.
Aloha from Maui,Hawaii! We have been here a week and have gotten to see and do some really incredible things. I will be posting some of the pictures and videos on my Twitter @MLScardGuy if you would like to see them. We also cover all things MLS including transfer rumors, some injuries, and just overall commentary on the league. Give us a follow to stay up to date with everything happening. Speaking of which, some insanity occurred during the midweek in the Colorado vs SKC game. Keep in mind two players on each side were sent off which makes them significantly weaker this weekend. Also keep in mind many teams played midweek and US Open Cup is next midweek, the teams left in that are major rotation risks so watch the lineups carefully. Now onto the picks!

MLS Betting – Game Week 12 Preview
Cincinnati vs New England
Is this FINALLY a corner turned for New England? We talked about how poor they have been all season now unbeaten in 4 including a 5-1 thrashing of Cincinnati in the US Open Cup. They have also scored 2 or more goals in 7 in a row now. There is absolutely no doubting the impact that Carles Gil has in this league and he is single handedly trying to carry his teammates back to their winning ways from last year. However, it seems a bit premature to make them favorites on the road against a team 4 points back from the Supporters Shield. The 5-1 win against Cincy in the Open Cup was a heavily rotated Cincy and a full strength New England. Expect goals in this game, and the Draw no bet market is probably the safest, but I think Cincy gets the win at home in a slugfest.
Nashville vs Atlanta
It really is too bad that Nashville has moved to the west as a nice little rivalry is developing between these two teams. Atlanta has always been the south’s crown jewel as a city, but Nashville is a rising power that cannot be ignored. The same is true on the pitch, with Atlanta having more tradition and bigger expectations, but Nashville continuing to outperform them. This seems like Nashville are the better side but they also played midweek, while Atlanta had the midweek off. I still like Nashville in a draw no bet situation, but I may take a draw in this game. Atlanta did have Nashville completely on the ropes a few weeks ago in the Open Cup with both teams at full strength. That game would have ended in a draw after 90’… I think this ends 1-1.
MLS Betting – Over 2.5 Goals Betting Odds
Charlotte vs Vancouver
Let’s talk about the hottest teams in the league. Over the last 3, Cincinnati are the only team to win all of them. Teams with 7 points from the last three are NYCFC, San Jose and VANCOUVER! The team at the bottom of the standings has been quickly catching back up which just shows the parity in the league. There aren’t great teams or horrible teams in the MLS, there are only hot teams and cold teams. Now 4 points back of the playoff line (also how many points they had through 8 games) Vancouver visits Charlotte and one of the most hostile atmospheres in the MLS. Maybe that’s the saving grace for Charlotte because on paper, Vancouver is more talented and in better form. Oh, and they are huge underdogs (4.17 to win). They have a decent shot at this one in my book.
Inter Miami vs New York Red Bull
Miami are still having a fantastic season for my money. I fully expected them to be absolute pushovers this season, and they have put up a pretty decent fight. A 0-0 draw in Philly during the midweek is a fantastic result. Now Red Bull comes to town after a 3-3 slugfest with Chicago. Keep in mind both teams played during the midweek, and both teams have US Open Cup games next midweek. Seems like there could be rotation for everyone in this game so watch the lineups carefully. In a game like this where we could see any number of backups, I’m inclined to go with the underdog, in this case the home underdog. However, watch the lineup news on this one because a full strength Red Bull lineup probably walks out of Miami with 3 points.
