Kris Brown – AKA MLS Card Guy – is our resident serious Major League Soccer expert.
Kris’s passion for the MLS really took off during the 2018 season in which he was a part of the team at DC United that opened Audi Field and welcomed Wayne Rooney to the MLS. He is now in his second season with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL. Kris likes to follow D.C United, Cincinnati, Seattle, and Atlanta.
His favorite player in the MLS is Luciano Acosta, but past favorites include Clint Dempsey and Kevin Paredes. The most iconic game he attended came at Audi field against Orlando in 2018, Wayne Rooney famously chased down an Orlando player who was racing towards an open DC goal, expertly tackled the ball away to save the draw, then unleashed a laser from midfield that Acosta headed in to complete the hat trick and seal the win.
Guess who’s back, back again, MLScardGuy is back, tell a friend. I have returned from a wonderful trip to New York City and we are ready to hit the ground running with this week’s analysis. First though, a HUGE congratulations to our very own Seattle Sounders who have become the first team in MLS history to win the CCL (more on them later). It’s a massive milestone for the league in general and feels like it has been coming for some time, but now the monkey is finally off our backs! Now, on with the show.

MLS Betting – Game Week 8 Preview
Charlotte vs Inter Miami
We are back with a bang this week as the first game on the dockett just happens to be a game we are required to make a selection in! Inter Miami were absolutely flying for a few weeks but crashed down to earth this past week. I am of the opinion that their run was more blind luck than actually a turning point in the season, and the sorry display last week seems to confirm that. Two red cards also doesn’t help anything against a surprisingly tough Charlotte team in Bank of America Stadium. The pick here is that Charlotte will get the win in this battle at the bottom of the table.
Atlanta vs Chicago Fire
Every single week I think to myself, “This is the week that Atlanta has got to break out of this slump”. Every single week they continue to not break out of the slump. They are clearly missing Josef Martinez but Luiz Araujo is now fully fit giving Atlanta most of its creative workforce to use. They face a Chicago team who is now without a few players due to red cards, and has signed Chris Mueller at the end of the transfer window to try to be more offensive. This still feels like a low scoring game to me, but something tells me we see some signs of life from Atlanta. I will take a 2-0 Atlanta win in this game but the safer pick is the Atlanta win.

Minnesota United vs Cincinnati
This week has a nice strong home favorites kind of feel for me, and here’s another game with a similar vibe. Cincinnati has won 3 straight, but I think they are getting a little too much credit for that. Alec Kann is still a major question mark, and while Celentano has filled in admirably, Cincy stills seems vulnerable to me. In this game, they face a well oiled Minnesota machine that has been playing really well in some very tough games. Going to Minnesota is never an easy place to play anyway, so we will take Minnesota United to get the victory.
Dallas vs Seattle Sounders
We have got to talk about this game, not so much from a matchup stand point, but more from a circumstances surrounding the game stand point. Seattle pulled off one of the more memorable feats in MLS history 72 hours before this game is set to take place. This means that one of two things will happen, 1. Seattle will still be hungover from the win on Wednesday night and will get beat pretty badly by a dangerous Dallas team. 2. Focus shifts from the CCL to the MLS season and Seattle finally starts to get its season going. The momentum gained on Wednesday night in Seattle is carried over into a big win down in Dallas. It’s a little biased from me because I’m so impressed with Seattle’s CCL run but I think it’ll be option 2. Schmetzer is going to get his team refocused on the MLS season and the same team that sliced Pumas apart is going to turn its
sights on Dallas. Quick note on this one, the loss of Joao Paulo for the season would be a massive blow to any other team, but I am such a big Obed Vargas fan that I think they just keep rolling on.
