Week 35 – Ligue 1 Betting Tips | French Football Betting
Welcome back after an eventful and indeed goal-full week in Ligue 1, 35 scored across the 10 fixtures in the last gameweek. The battle at top and bottom for European places and to avoid relegation continues to tighten. Nine points separate Rennes in 3rd and Nantes in 10th. While Angers in 14th are only 4 points ahead of St Etienne in the relegation play off place.
Last week, rather than looking at predicted winners and losers I looked at games where I thought both sides would score or where there’d be multiple goals. I predicted that Lyon v Montpellier would be a high scoring affair. It ended 5-2 to Lyon. I suggested that the odds were too heavily stacked in PSG’s favour against Lens and that both teams would score in a tight affair. They drew 1-1. I was maybe a little too conservative predicting that Nantes would beat Bordeaux by 2 and that both sides would score. Nantes beat Bordeaux 5-3! And finally I suggested that Clermont were too heavily favoured in the odds against Angers and that both teams would score. They drew 2-2. A good week!
Let’s look at GW35.

Let’s take a look at this week’s focus games for game week 34.

STRASBOURG vs PSG
Â
The odds have PSG as favourite here. However, Strasbourg have everything to play for and will be keen to get back to winning ways after a frustrating loss to Lille last week. PSG on the other hand, have nothing to play for, know that their manager is a lame duck and have suggested the kids will get more game time now that the title is wrapped up. All that adds up to me thinking that Strasbourg could well pinch something here. They have had trouble scoring recently, but PSG do yield chances. The return for Strasbourg of Adrien Thomasson, their main creator, is important. He had a decent game against Lille. Now, that is not to say I am writing off PSG. And the odds are not too far off. I do think both teams will score, but it likely won’t be a high scoring affair. And that is despite PSG having scored 20 goals in their last 7 games. Expect rotation or a lack of motivation from PSG. Strasbourg’s loss to Lille last week was unlucky and came onthe end of an 11 game unbeaten run. They are 6th with 56 points, only 1 point off Nice and 3 points off the Champions League qualification places. I am going to stick my neck out and say Strasbourg edge this one.

BORDEAUX vs NICE
Â
Somewhat surprisingly the odds have Bordeaux as slight favourites here. That is the same Bordeaux sat in 19th place, with one win (v Metz on 10/4/22) in their last 12 games and having conceded 74 goals this season (14 in their last 4 games). Their defence is a shambles. And yet, I can almost see what the odds see. OGC Nice (DLDLWLW) are clinging to 4th but are certainly stumbling towards the line. They are having problems scoring and only just beat Troyes (16th) and Lorient (15th) recently. Manager Christoph Galtier’s stubborn refusal to shift to a more attacking set up is starting to anger fans. A season full of optimism at the start is fading. And yet they could still qualify for Europe and win the French Cup (v Nantes next week). They are also pretty heavy on attacking talent, if they are misfiring somewhat. And retain the best defence in the league (29 conceded). All that is to say that I think the odds are wrong on this one. I think Nice do their European dreams a favour and deliver another blow to Bordeaux’s efforts to stay up. Bordeaux do, though, have a pretty potent attack (47 scored), one that has scored more than 11 other clubs in the league, including scoring more than Nice have this season. If you are feeling adventurous then back both teams to score.

TROYES vs LILLE
Â
Again, rather surprisingly, the odds have 16th placed Troyes as the favourites in this one. Or, is it really that surprising? Well, Troyes are certainly dangerous and they were a little unlucky to lose to Nice last week. Yes, Troyes are 4 games without a win. But that was after 4 games without a defeat. They also have everything to play for. They are not mathematically safe yet. They are only 2 points above the relegation playoff place and 6 ahead of Bordeaux in 19th. Lille, on the other hand, are all but on the beach. You could argue that they are still in the fight for European places, and mathematically they are. But realistically they have little or nothing to play for. They sit in 9th on 51 points. Their most recent wins against Nantes a few weeks back and last weekend against Strasbourg sandwiched a run in which they scraped draws against lowly Angers and Bordeaux. This is another game that I am picking against the odds. I think it will be a draw. A low scoring draw.Â
