Kris Brown – AKA MLS Card Guy – is our resident serious Major League Soccer expert.
Kris’s passion for the MLS really took off during the 2018 season in which he was a part of the team at DC United that opened Audi Field and welcomed Wayne Rooney to the MLS. He is now in his second season with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL. Kris likes to follow D.C United, Cincinnati, Seattle, and Atlanta.
His favorite player in the MLS is Luciano Acosta, but past favorites include Clint Dempsey and Kevin Paredes. The most iconic game he attended came at Audi field against Orlando in 2018, Wayne Rooney famously chased down an Orlando player who was racing towards an open DC goal, expertly tackled the ball away to save the draw, then unleashed a laser from midfield that Acosta headed in to complete the hat trick and seal the win.
The international break is over… the CCL is almost over (finally)… and we are back into a more or less full gameweek. There is no messing around today, we are just going to hop straight into things!
MLS Betting Tips – Week 5
MLS Betting – Game Week 6 Preview
Orlando City vs Chicago Fire
The Fire have been one of the most surprising teams through the first month of the season. They are giving me Nashville vibes with the complete lack of emphasis on offense and the total focus on the defensive side of the ball. Sooner or later somebody is going to have to score on them though and away at Orlando may be the spot. Orlando really hasn’t missed a beat (aside from the Cincy result) since losing Nani, Mueller, and Dike as Torres and Pato have stepped up nicely. I like the value play on Orlando to win (2.07 at home) BTS No (2.03) or if you do believe in that vaunted Chicago defense maybe you go for a 0-0 tie exact result. Keep an eye on Xherdan Shaqiri as he is day to day, if he is out I like Gallese to keep the shutout even more!
Inter Miami vs New England Revolution
We talked about New England last week and how that would be a great barometer for where they are as a club this season. Well, last week didn’t go so well as they dropped a 1-0 result at home to a 10 man Red Bulls. On the bright side the goalkeeping change away from Edwards did help, and this week gets even easier against, in my opinion, the worst team in the league. If Houston can break its 26 game road winless streak in Miami, then surely the defending supporters’ shield winners (no matter how bad they are playing this season) can get the 3 points at better than even odds (2.25). How much longer will David Beckham let Phil Neville dig them into a hole this season? Surely, there must be some discussion about moving on at this point.
MLS Betting – Over 2.5 Goals Betting Odds
Austin vs Minnesota United
Austin has cooled down significantly over the last few games. Since starting the season with 10 goals in 2 wins, Austin has scored just 3 times in its last 3 games, getting only 2 points from those fixtures. Now an underrated Minnesota team comes to town with impressive results @ Philly and @ NYRB already under their belts. Minnesota has not scored more than 1 goal in any game this season. I think this is the game they finally start to get going. I’ll take over 2.5 goals and I’ll take the road underdog admittedly against some of the analytics, I just have a gut feeling about this one.
FC Dallas vs Colorado Rapids
I am really liking what I am seeing from Dallas this season, they could be a real contender in the West. Paul Arriola makes a massive difference on this team with his energy and work rate so hopefully he is able to go in this one. Colorado on the other hand doesn’t seem to be the same team they were last year when they won the West. The last two games were very winnable for them and they just couldn’t seem to stick the ball in the back of the net. I think people are also underestimating the impact of losing Kellyn Acosta. As a result Jack Price is forced to sit a bit deeper and defend more which is not letting him be the real creative force he was last year.
Going on the road to a team that will press them all night doesn’t help things. Give me Dallas at home (2.07) if Arriola starts.
Charlotte vs Atlanta
I can’t help myself. I have to talk about the Charlotte game, but honestly I have absolutely no idea where this one will go. My gut says Charlotte can get Atlanta for a soft goal or two and Khalina can continue to be one of the top goalies in the league. No Josef Martinez, no Araujo (probably), Osie Alonso is now gone from the midfield for Atlanta. However, my head is telling me to look at the talent disparity that still separates these teams! Brooks Lennon, Miles Robinson, Marcelino Moreno, Thiago Almada are probably the 4 best players in this game and they are all on one side. Either way, the MLS’s newest rivalry (that isn’t really a rivalry yet) promises to entertain. Make sure to tune in on Sunday at 5:30 GMT after the Liverpool vs. Man City game!
